About me
Introduction
My name is Katie Smart and I am nearing the end of my Masters program here at Western Oregon University. I have had the privilege of attending WOU for both my undergraduate degree and my Masters. I am originally from Seattle, Washington and decided early on in life that teaching was the career for me. The renowned teacher education program is what led me down to beautiful Oregon for my college experience. While completing my degree, I was involved in residential life. I had the opportunity to work in hall government as well as be a Resident Assistant in several of the halls. Needless to say, that filled my life with many adventures and opportunities to learn from others. I obtained my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education in June of 2011.
Following my graduation, I decided to stay in Oregon and be a substitute teacher around the Willamette Valley. I stayed very busy subbing for the different school districts but that wasn't enough for me! In January of 2012, I decided to pursue my Masters. I've always had a love for technology and the excitement it brings for children. The content of Western's Information Technology program matched the career goals I had set for myself.
After subbing for two years and experiencing many teaching environments, I received an offer to teach in Lebanon, Oregon as a 2nd grade teacher and I am currently still teaching there. I enjoy every aspect of it and I am continually looking for ways to be involved and learn more. I definitely can't complain about having summers off! I spend my free days reading by the lake, camping, and going to every country music festival I can find. Oregon has definitely won me over and I plan on sticking around for awhile!
